Marini primed for debut season with Forward Team

Valentino Rossi’s half-brother Luca Marini and Lorenzo Baldassarri unveil their Forward Team bikes for the 2016 Moto2™ season.

The Forward Team presented their liveries, sponsors, crew and riders for the 2016 Moto2™ World Championship season on Monday in Milan.  The team this year consists of the returning Lorenzo Baldassarri – who ended the 2015 season in 9th - and a new signing for 2016, the Italian Luca Marini. The promising young 18-year-old from Tavullia, who is part of the VR46 Riders Academy, has signed a multi-year contract with the team and also happens to be the half-brother of nine–time World Champion Valentino Rossi. Marini rode as a wildcard last season at Misano, crossing the line in 21st and has made the step up to the Moto2™ World Championship from the FIM CEV Repsol Moto2™ European Championship where he finished in fifth overall last year.

Luca Marini: “I am very pleased to begin this new adventure with Forward Racing. I’d like to thank Giovanni Cuzari and the VR46 Riders Academy for the great opportunity they're offering me. The first feelings after the Jerez Test are absolutely positive; with my Kalex 2016 I feel good, now it comes to acquiring more and more confidence especially during the first few races and learning the circuits on which I have not raced yet. I’m at ease with the team and I think that, thanks to them and to the support of the VR46 Riders Academy, I will be able to grow very fast. I’m all in for that.”

Lorenzo Baldassarri: “I am excited to continue my career with Forward Racing. I am convinced that together we will grow again and we can reach great achievements this year. The first test in Jerez went well and I am pleased with the feeling I have got with the new Kalex 2016. Although I was among the fastest we still have to improve in order to be competitive from the beginning. I hope that this season will continue just as I finished the last one: growing and constantly improving my results. Many thanks to Giovanni Cuzari and the VR46 Riders Academy for the opportunity they are giving me I can’t wait to go on track in Qatar where he will begin to get serious.”

Giovanni Cuzari: “I am proud and happy to present, for the sixth consecutive year the Forward Racing Moto2 team. The project this year is young and full of values that I very much believe in. This year Forward Racing is competing with two young talents of the VR46 Riders Academy: Lorenzo Baldassarri and Luca Marini. New goals are awaiting us together with our boys and to all the staff. In this regard, I want to thank the whole crew who have worked on the track and in the office with great professionalism and passion. Thanks also to the VR46 Riders Academy for the trust they have placed on us by entrusting us with two of their most promising riders. Last but not least I would like to thank the sponsors, some of whom have been with us for a long time, they support us and believe in our view. We stay ambitious, the imperative for this season is to grow as much as possible in Moto2 championship and compete with the strongest and we are convinced that this working group can give us many great results.”
