Rabat: 'Finishing races in the Top 10 would be great'

Tito Rabat concluded the final preseason test in Qatar one week ago, his third test with a MotoGP bike in 2016 after runs in Phillip Island.

The Estrella Galicia 0,0 riders accepts that the move up to MotoGP™ is a big challenge, but is optimistic and satisfied with his progress, aiming to finish races amongst the top 10.

How do you assess your progress from the first test in Sepang?
"It has been a difficult preseason because of everything that comes with it being my first time on a MotoGP bike. In every test we work hard with the tyres or the electronics. It is already difficult moving up to MotoGP, but with these changes, it has been a little trickier even than normal. The good news is that, despite the crashes we've had, our confidence has only grown. I feel better on the bike and am going faster every time I ride."

What are your feelings about the bike and its possibilities?
"Although we are still far off, I think that everything I've learned, I've applied to my riding the following day. Now we have to put everything we have learned in testing into practice in Qatar. At a Grand Prix you learn more, because you see more riders in action. At a test they might slow down, but on a race weekend they have no choice but to push. You discover new lines, new ways to ride and evolve faster."

What will be your next step to improve the bike?
"Even if I’m part of the same structure, the crew is new to me -but gradually we are understanding each other better. We need to find a few things in the setup, but Rome was not built in a day- takes time. For me it is just another challenge and I face it with motivation."

What are your main goals?
"Being a rookie in the class, the first step will be to get the best out of myself, the bike and the team. Those are the basics. After that, I want to continue to evolve. I think a good result would be finishing races in the Top 10. It would be very positive and allow us to do bigger things."

How do you imagine your debut in MotoGP™?
"I’m looking forward to it, after this long winter without competition. I can’t wait for the races to start. I am looking forward to starting the hectic pace that comes with racing. That's what I like, and how I like to live, so can’t wait to get going."
