Sam Lowes returns to the scene of his first Moto2™race victory, the Brit hungry for a second trip to the top step of the podium.
Qatar saw Sam Lowes succumb to bad luck, penalized for a jump start and then producing a spirited ride back through the field for ninth. Argentina saw no such issues for the Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 man, charging to second in the race and boosting himself to third in the championship. With the wind of confidence behind him, Lowes is now fully prepared to return to battle at one of his favourite tracks. After winning the 2015 edition of the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas, Lowes went on to take four additional podiums in 2015 but is yet to make a return to the top step.
Despite the bad luck in Qatar, Lowes has been competitive in every session so far in 2016, rarely outside the top five. Hard work during the pre-season now has Lowes in an excellent position with his Kalex machine. Particular attention was paid to the Öhlins suspension during testing, Lowes able to put his Kalex exactly where he wants it out on track.
Sam Lowes: “It was really important to get a good result in Argentina because at the first Grand Prix in Qatar we have been unlucky. I love the track in Austin and the goal has to be to try to win, which is a realistic target. The bike has been good on every track so far, so I can’t see why it wouldn’t be at Circuit of the Americas. I’m really happy, I feel that we can do a good job and I’m going to Texas to try to win the race starting from where we finished last weekend.”
