Michelin discuss findings from Argentina

Both the Loris Baz and Scott Redding incidents were discussed and clarified by Michelin’s Nicolas Goubert, as well as the plan for the year.

Now back in Europe, Michelin have been able to fully analyse the tyre of Scott Redding from Argentina. Nicolas Goubert also clarified that Baz’s incident in Sepang was down to an unfortunate rear tyre puncture.

Michelin’s analysis of Redding's tyre has confirmed that a mix of high track temperatures, the severity of the layout in Argentina and Scott Redding's size were the combining factors in the tyre delaminating in Argentina. Nicolas Goubert reiterated that the tyre construction used in Austin will remain for the rest of the season. This tyre is more robust and will be able to handle a wider variety of conditions.

Pressure recommendations have been changed, dropping from 1.9 to 1.7 bar. This means that the contact patch is bigger with the lower pressure. As such both the new and old tyres will have more or less the same potential.

Michelin will use the test on Monday to further assess various tyres and will continue development with their test riders throughout the year.
