Laverty: “My aim is to make another top ten finish”

One of the revelations of 2016 has been Eugene Laverty, the Irish rider transformed into a top ten contender.

Since stepping onto the Ducati GP14.2 with the Aspar Team MotoGP, Eugene Laverty has been able to deliver a string of point scoring results, ending the Argentina and Spanish GPs inside the top ten. Having spent his rookie season struggling to show his ability on an Open Honda, the Irish rider is now delivering on his potential and is out for the top ten in every race. Ninth in the standings has Laverty still within touching distance of the leading Independent Team rider, Pol Espargaro (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) who is eight points ahead. For the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France Laverty is not only aiming for the top ten but also the top Independent Team rider spot in the race, as he believes the heavy braking and hard acceleration areas will suit the GP14.2.

Eugene Laverty: “I was very satisfied with the last race at Jerez. My aim was to maintain this strong top ten form and we did exactly that with ninth position. We arrive at Le Mans with good confidence and good momentum, my aim is to make another top ten finish and keep fighting to be the top independent team. We were so close at Jerez, just 1.5 seconds off, so this time we want to make sure we arrive first. I think the Le Mans circuit should actually suit our bike a lot, so I am looking forward to it.”
