Baz: “One of the worst race weekends of my life”

Baz: “One of the worst race weekends of my life”

It was anything but an enjoyable home race for Loris Baz as he was unable to solve persistent issues.

Starting from last place, Loris Baz was not confident for his home race at the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France. Problems getting his GP14.2 to turn saw the home rider and Avintia Racing chasing their tails in an attempt to find a solution. Anytime they improved cornering, they would encounter intense front-end chatter. With no solutions working, Baz shot off the line in an attempt to do what he could, making up five positions in the first lap before dropping back. Almost every lap saw another rider pass Baz, the Frenchman unable to maintain his speed from the first two laps. Fortunately for Baz there were nine fallers, which saw him promoted up the order to 12th despite a disastrous race. Mugello presents another chance for Baz to show his true potential, every race in 2016 so far hindered by issues out of Baz’s control. With Baz's Avintia Racing teammate Hector Barbera frequently battling for the top ten, there's more potential to come from the GP14.2

Loris Baz: “This was one of the worst race weekends of my life, because I can’t remember ever having had a problem with no solution in my career; we tried everything and nothing worked out. The start was quite good and I passed a lot of people, but I realised immediately that it was impossible to keep the pace and I went back again. So, there’s not much to say, I’ve been very lucky with all the crashes today and I got some points. Yes, we finished 12th, but this not a real result as eight riders crashed during the race. We finished way back and the bike was impossible to ride. I wish I had a different tyre at Mugello. If not, we’ll keep trying to find a solution, but right now we have no more ideas to test.”
