Hernandez: “My times were almost three seconds slower”

Another difficult race outside of the points for Yonny Hernandez as his pace drops and forces a pit stop.

The last three races have seen Yonny Hernandez (Aspar Team MotoGP) unable to score a single point. Hernandez had been hoping for a top ten finish in Barcelona, showing a pace capable of doing so earlier in the weekend, and had jumped up to 13th place from 16th on the grid early in the race. He seemed comfortable in 13th but as the halfway mark of the race approached, the Colombian’s speed left him. Hernandez was suddenly three seconds a lap slower than he had been and began to drop down the order. A lack of rear grip was the cause, the problem so bad that Hernandez pitted for a change of machinery.  With this his race was done and he crossed the line in 17th, a lap behind the winners. The Aspar Team MotoGP chose not to run during the Monday test.

"It's been a difficult year, one of the most difficult of my career"

Yonny Hernandez: “It's a shame about this result, because we had been having a good weekend until the race –always fighting to get into the top ten. I felt good, and although the start was not great, I recovered positions and had a good pace. When I was riding in thirteenth, around Lap 10, I began to notice that the rear tyre performance dropped significantly. My times were almost three seconds slower than normal when I was riding at the limit. In the end, due to this problem with the rear, I had to pit to change bikes. It's been a difficult year, one of the most difficult of my career, but I have a strong mind, hold my head high and will focus a lot of positive energy on the next round”
