Canet: “I followed the more experienced riders”

A day of learning for Aron Canet in Assen, the Spanish rookie proving a quick study as he sets the fastest time of the day.

Free Practice 1 saw Aron Canet’s (Estrella Galicia 0,0) session cut short by a big highside just before the rain came. The Spaniard was unharmed but the damage to his bike combined with the track’s condition meant he was unable to head back out. Missing track time is tough for any rookie but Canet made up for lost time and tucked in behind some of the more experienced riders during Free Practice 2. Thanks to some handy tips from the veterans he dropped his time to a 1’43.031, the fastest time of the day. His teammate Jorge Navarro may not be in Assen due to a broken leg, but Canet is doing the team proud.

"I’m aware that it is still the first day and we have to continue to work"

Aron Canet: “This morning, when the conditions weren’t very good, we decided it was best to take it slow and become more familiar with the layout and avoid risks. However, seeing the speed of the others, I was extra-motivated and I made a mistake that saw me finish on the floor, fortunately without consequences. In the afternoon the track had more grip and I followed the more experienced riders in order to learn. I felt very comfortable and have achieved the fastest time today but I’m aware that it is still the first day and we have to continue to work and to learn because tomorrow all the riders will push hard. ”
