Pirro: “The limit was so narrow that I couldn’t save it”

Replacement rider Michele Pirro was certainly put through his paces in Assen as the weather changed multiple times during the race.

The Motul TT Assen was an up and down weekend for Michele Pirro (Avintia Racing), unpredictable weather throughout the weekend restricted his progress on the GP14.2. Pirro started second last on the grid, Andrea Iannone (Ducati Team) the only rider behind him due to his penalty from Catalunya, the 26-lap Motul TT Assen commenced in the wet but would not go the full distance. Pirro struggled in the conditions, eventually crashing on the last lap before the race was red flagged. The Italian was able to return to the pits and therefore make the restart. But Pirro’s fortunes wouldn’t get much better in the restart as he crashed again, unable to finish.

Michele Pirro, Avintia Racing, Motul TT Assen

Michele Pirro: “This weekend was really difficult for me, I think one of the hardest of my career. But this is racing. I feel sorry for the team, because we had the chance to fight for the seventh place in the second race, but I crashed. I had no warning and the limit was so narrow that I couldn’t save it. I feel bad for the team because today we could have achieved a good result. These two races were a great experience for me, but to be honest I hoped to get better results. Thanks to Avintia for this opportunity, I hope it will go better next time.”
