Smith: “We have a solid chance of obtaining a good result”

Bradley Smith is staying optimistic for the German GP, looking to replicate his sixth place from a year ago.

The Sachsenring is a circuit that divides opinion amongst the riders; some riders enjoy it for special parts of the track such as the waterfall while others dislike the tight layout. On small bikes the tight layout is not such a big issue, but on the fire breathing MotoGP™ World Championship bikes it means riders are rarely able to open the throttle fully. Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) doesn’t mind the tight layout, the incredible run down the waterfall making up for it. In 2014 Smith crashed four times at the Sachsenring while pushing to try and secure a new contract. Aside from this blip Smith has a strong record in Germany, twice taking sixth place.

Smith holds 15th in the championship with 32 points, less than half the points of his teammate. The German GP offers Smith a great chance to give himself a confidence boost before the summer break with a s strong result. After a tough weekend in Assen, Smith got a chance to relax a little by having a run on a 500cc Grand Prix machine at a classic race at Spa – Francorchamps. It’s safe to say Smith enjoyed himself on the two stroke!

Bradley Smith: “The next stop for us is the German Grand Prix, which is definitely a special one, due to the location of the circuit. This racetrack stands alone because of its tight corners like the Omega and also because we do not really open the throttle fully until the waterfall, which I must say is awesome to ride. Last year I managed to get sixth, and honestly, I feel that we have a solid chance of obtaining a good result again with the capabilities of the YZR-M1. After Assen, I went to the legendary Spa - Francorchamps circuit with the Tech3 team and Guy Coulon to ride a two-stroke 500cc Yamaha. I really enjoyed the experience and I have to say thanks to the guys for making it happen. Yet, this weekend we are back our usual business with the goal being to score the top independent position.”
