On Sunday July 10th at the Circuito de Forjareis the selection for the inaugural Dani Rivas Cup took place in front of a number of big name stars from the world of MotoGP™.
MotoGP™ stars Aleix and Pol Espargaro were joined by Moto2™ rider Julian Simon to form part of the jury to select the 15 children who will feature in the four rounds of the 2016 season.
Each rider got to complete three track sessions, with the jury judging them on their age, experience, fastest lap from each session, and their fastest lap from the day. After careful deliberation the judges informed each of the 15 successful riders personally that would compete in the 2016 Dani Rivas Cup, a Dorna endorsed competition designed to be a stepping stone for the young riders to achieve their dream of competing in the Moto3™ World Championship. More importantly it was a memorable weekend for the children – and not just the ones that were successfully selected – as they got to meet their MotoGP™ idols.
The first round of the 2016 Dani Rivas Cup will take place on the 13th/14th of August at the Circuito DR7 in Tarancon, Cuenca, Spain. The event will be a celebration, as it will form part of the Dani Rivas Memorial event, which will also feature another four races designed for children.
