Pre-season testing could not have predicted that Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) would be facing a 48 point deficit in the points table ahead of the 2016 summer break, but the reigning champion finds himself with a mountain to climb as the curtain comes down on the first half of the season. Despite spectacular victories in Qatar, Le Mans and Mugello – the latter a photo-finish after a duel with compatriot Marc Marquez that will make the history books – the highs of the season have been accompanied by lows, including finishing off the podium in the last three Grands Prix. Ever the competitor, Lorenzo has a clear goal as the engines fire up in Austria, however: to try and cut the distance to the top of the table – and with Movistar Yamaha MotoGP having already visited the Red Bull Ring to test.

"We will keep fighting until the end of the championship."

Jorge Lorenzo: “After the summer break we get back into action in Spielberg, a place we were able to check out for the first time three weeks ago during a two-day test. I spent a few days' time on the Balearic Islands to relax but then I started to train again to get in the best shape to face the second half of the season. It's true that the situation is difficult because Marc is slightly ahead in the championship but we will do our best, as every year, to try and cut the distance. We will keep fighting until the end of the championship!"
