Mir: "I tried to use what I've learnt"

Mallorcan rookie thrilled after maiden pole and win

Leopard Racing rookie Joan Mir took a stunning first world championship win in Austria, keeping cool from pole position to battle at the front and then using his growing experience for his last lap strategy. With Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Ajo) having looked unstoppable until Mir stole pole in qualifying, the Spaniard is rightfully delighted with his weekend.

Joan Mir (P3): “What a great weekend, it’s incredible. My first win and pole position…It’s difficult to keep focused, it’s another level here in the world championship. I tried to use what I’ve learnt from other races this season and put myself ahead in the last laps – whenever someone overtook me I took them back. It’s unforgettable for me and the team and I want to thank them for all the work they’ve done this season, and especially this weekend. I want to dedicate the victory to Luis Salom, because I didn’t have the opportunity yet.”
