Lorenzo: “Now we have to fight for second”

The ‘Spartan’ gears up for the final three rounds of 2016

Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) was the last man standing between Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) and the 2016 crown, after Lorenzo’s teammate Valentino Rossi crashed out early in Motegi. Despite a huge highside in FP3 on Saturday, the Mallorcan was still nevertheless in P2 when he then crashed out of contention for the victory – and the title. There are now three races left in 2016 and the 3-time MotoGP™ World Champion has one thing on his mind: winning, in a bid to get P2 in the Championship by the flag in Valencia at the end of the season. Phillip Island has seen Lorenzo a winner in MotoGP™ in 2013, as well as having a great podium record at the track - and a title in 2012, when he won his second MotoGP™ crown at the venue.

Jorge Lorenzo: “It was a shame in Motegi, but we were at least able to fight for the victory despite the wrong decision with the tyre. My crash and Vale‘s gave Marc the title but honestly he was the most consistent rider. Now we have to fight for the second position in the championship, though the important thing - and why we are here - is to be a champion. Phillip Island is going to be a bit strange because the fight for the championship is over, but I would like to do a great race and try to win. That`s my goal for the next three races and take the vice champion title as well.”
