Foundations laid for MotoGP™ in Indonesia

First steps taken towards a future Indonesian race weekend

Indonesia’s love for two-wheels is well known, and the country’s lust for motorcycles extends to an incredible passion for motorcycle racing and MotoGP™. As reigning MotoGP™ World Champion Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) returns from an event in the country, the Malaysian GP has hosted an exciting step in the journey towards staging a MotoGP™ race in this key market – the Governor of South Sumatra, H. Alex Noerdin, the Adviser of Ikatan Motor Indonesia (IMI), Romy Winata, and Ulrich Merres from Tilke Engineering made the trip to Sepang to sign a preliminary contract, getting an Indonesian GP project into gear.

Sepang International Circuit is a track designed by Tilke, and the company’s portfolio also boasts other jewels in the crown of global motorsport – such as the Circuit of the Americas, the stage for the US GP - and there was no better place for the contract to be signed, putting in motion a project that has been a dream of many in both Indonesia and the MotoGP™ paddock: a future Indonesian GP.
