Lorenzo: “It’s a great way to say thank you”

The ‘Spartan’ says goodbye to Yamaha with another incredible victory

Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotogGP) started his 250th race at the Valencia GP, becoming the youngest rider to do so, and the day marked an era as well as ended one. In Yamaha blue since a first pole position in his first premier class race in 2008, the Mallorcan 5-time World Champion has taken three of those crowns in the premier class with the Japanese manufacturer: 2010, 2012 and 2015.

Now, there is a new horizon. After 44 wins, 107 podiums and 39 pole positions, Lorenzo has fought his last battle in blue – and will begin a new chapter on Tuesday as he readies himself for the next challenge: the Ducati is waiting.

Jorge Lorenzo (P1): “I suffered a lot in the last ten laps because I’d had a gap of five seconds and then 4.5…then when I saw Marc in second I knew he would try everything and be very quick, and probably have more rear tyre. I had to be very focused and very precise not to lose the rear, especially in the last corner. I was lucky I could push and ride well in the early laps. It’s a great way to say thank you to Yamaha – a perfect weekend in my 250th GP start, with pole position and then the victory.”
