Marquez opens #QatarTest account with two crashes

Reigning Champion off to a bumpy start on Day 1 at Losail

Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) ended the first day of track action in the #QatarTest in P12 overall after a more difficult session, falling twice and setting a best lap of 1:55.899. That left the number 93 just over a second off the front after completing 39 laps.

One of Marquez’ falls saw the rider from Cervera crash using a new “aero-fairing” for the first time, with the Repsol Honda Team innovation breaking cover on Day 1 – and more from others up and down pitlane expected.

Marc Marquez, P12: “I can’t say it’s been one of our best days, but it was only the first and we worked a lot on testing a lot of different things – including a new fairing we want to continue evaluating. Some things worked well, but a few others we still need to adjust. I’m not too worried at having not put in a fast lap, because our rhythm is pretty good and I’m satisfied. I crashed twice – the first one was my fault because I braked too late, and the second was a typical crash for this track – almost at the end of the session when the temperature had dropped and the conditions weren’t great. In any case, tomorrow is another day and we’ll work on the set up of the bike on this track, trying to improve it.”
