Marquez: “Assen is always a tricky circuit for us”

...but the reigning Champion nevertheless takes P3 on Day 1

Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) was well outside the top ten in FP1, but the number 93 was straight back into the top echelons of the timesheets in the afternoon and ended Friday at Assen in P3.

Although happy about the improvements made between morning and afternoon, the five-time World Champion says there is still a lot of work to do – and reocognises the speed of Maverick Viñales (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) at the venue; traditionally not a ‘Honda track’.

Marc Marquez, P3: “Assen is always a tricky circuit for us, especially because our bike is quite unstable in the fast corners, but we are working to try and find a good base setup. We improved from FP1 to FP2, so I’m happy for this improvement, but we still need to work because all Yamaha riders – especially Viñales – are very strong here, so we will look forwards tomorrow. We will see what weather and what conditions we have, but we will try to do 100%.”
