Close finish for Baz and Barbera in the British GP

Two different stories created one close finish

Reale Avintia Racing teammates Hector Barbera and Loris Baz arrived at the line pretty close at Silverstone, but two very different races had unfolded for the two to find themselves together on track. Barbera, who had an issue off the line, spent his laps of the British venue fighting back through – with Baz instead on the attack from the off and then trying to defend. In the end, it was the Spaniard on the GP16 who came out on top – beating Baz by three and a half tenths, but with both riders taking home points.

Hector Barbera, P14: "The race went a bit from less to more. At the start when I put it in gear the bike moved a bit so I braked to avoid a jump start and then got going again, but I’d lost a lot of positions and I was almost last. Then I spent all the time coming back, I had good pace but I lost a lot of time trying to overtake Smith and Miller. It's a shame what happened at the start because the bike was going very well and I think I could have finished in the top ten. Now we have to try to work with this set-up because it is clear that it works best for me. In Misano I hope to take another step."

Loris Baz, Reale Avintia Racing, Octo British Grand Prix

Loris Baz, P15: "It was a difficult race but in the end I finished better than I expected. It was a risk to get away with the soft tire, but it was the tyre that gave me the best feeling and allowed me to attack to come back in the first few laps. Then I tried to finish the race as high as possible, but I couldn’t hold the position until the end because I was sliding a lot in the right handers. When Abraham passed me, I tried to stay with him by pushing where I could, but in the last two laps the tyre was done. In the end Hector arrived, he had more rhythm and I couldn’t do anything. We added a point, which isn’t bad after how the weekend went. We hope to be at our best level in Misano."
