Alex Marquez tops Moto2™ testing at Valencia

Start as you mean to go on…EG 0,0 Marc VDS rider quickest on Day 1 at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo

Alex Marquez (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) was the quickest of 19 riders from the intermediate class on track for Day 1 of a two-day test in Valencia on Monday, putting in 33 laps and ahead of second quickest Francesco Bagnaia (Sky Racing Team VR46) by two tenths. Luca Marini, Bagnaia’s new teammate, was the third quickest man on track.

Behind the three Kalex machines at the top of the timesheets was Iker Lecuona (CGBM Evolution) on the first KTM, with new teammate Sam Lowes - returning to the class from MotoGP™ - taking sixth behind Lorenzo Baldassarri (Pons HP 40). Just behind him was fellow Brit Danny Kent (Speed Up Racing), also back on track after some time away from Moto2™.

Joan Mir (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) was fastest rookie once again and took P8, nine tenths off the top, ahead of another rookie of a different nature as Hector Barbera (Pons HP 40) ended the day in P9. Xavi Vierge (Dynavolt Intact GP) was the fastest Suter to lock out the top ten.

Steven Odendaal and Joe Roberts (RW Racing GP) were both on track with their NTS machines as they prepare to debut the new chassis full time next season – taking P14 and P17 respectively.

Testing continues tomorrow.
