Dovizioso became the first title challenger for the marque since Casey Stoner last season, challenging Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) for the crown last year. He took six wins and ended 2017 runner up after the Final Showdown in Valencia, then picking up where he left off at the start of this season with a stunning victory in Qatar. Currently fifth in the standings but on more points that this time last year, the future is bright – and now secured for two more years.
