Spencer: “Dani’s had a great career”

MotoGP™ Legend Freddie Spencer has his say on Pedrosa’s future ahead of the Spaniard’s Press Conference at the German GP

With Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team) set to announce his future in a special Press Conference ahead of this weekend’s German GP, three-time Grand Prix World Champion Freddie Spencer spoke about the Spaniard’s career and the future of the number 26 rider.

“Dani’s had a great career,” commented Spencer. “I know it’s not ultimately what he’d have hoped, he wanted to win a MotoGP World Championship but he’s been in it 12 seasons on the Honda, he’s had a lot of victories, he’s obviously consistent with his podiums but he wasn’t able to win the World Championship.”

The MotoGP™ Legend continued, “obviously the last two races it’s evident that the concern and the distraction of what he’s going to do has affected his performance and he needs to get that out of the way, decide one way or the other and obviously the two choices are going to a team like Yamaha team, the satellite team, with proper support, maybe he’ll do that – or he’ll retire, because he really doesn’t have anything to improve.”

With Pedrosa’s Press Conference set for 16:00 local time (GMT +2) on Thursday, broadcast live on motogp.com, Spencer feels he’s going to announce a very big decision. “It’s going to be interesting to see, it makes you think with the emphasis on the press conference coming up that maybe it’s a major decision he’s making.”
