Since 2017, Dorna and Red Bull have run a talent promotion program to support a rider from the European Talent Cup to move into the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup the following season. Last year it was Danish rider Simon Jespersen, and in 2018 the rider chosen to become a Rookie is Spaniard David Salvador.
Salvador had an impressive year in the ETC, with four podiums – including two second places – seeing him take third overall. The 15-year-old ended the season just 24 points off the top and he’ll now gear up for a new challenge with new rivals as he takes on the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in 2019.
The same opportunity will be offered to one of the top competitors in the European Talent Cup next season, with Dorna and Red Bull joining forces once again to give another talent in the ETC the chance to move into the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup.
