Marquez remains ahead in MotoGP™ Warm Up

The Champion tops the final session ahead of the race, as Dovi rises to third

Reigning Champion Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) has remained on top of the standings ahead of the Gran Premio D’Italia Oakley. The 23-lap race, which will see Marquez start from pole, promises to be another thrilling MotoGP™ battle. Joan Mir (Team Suzuki ECSTAR) was a pleasant surprise in second position, whilst Andrea Dovizioso (Mission Winnow Ducati) climbed to third.

The final Warm Up session of the morning, MotoGP™ took to the track one last time before the lights turn to green and the race gets underway. Marc Marquez put in an impressive run through the session, ending on top. It was a strong session from rookie Joan Mir too, as the Spaniard put in a time just 0.089s behind his compatriot. ‘Desmo Dovi’ was back in the top three, signaling that he is still in with a shout of victory – something that hasn’t been achieved from ninth on the grid at Mugello in the premier class. Mir’s teammate – Alex Rins – was fourth despite running through gravel in the early stages, whilst Fabio Quartararo (Petronas Yamaha SRT) completed the top five.

It was another struggle for Valentino Rossi (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP), who was 15th, one place behind teammate Maverick Viñales. Jorge Lorenzo (Repsol Honda Team) was only 18th, with a repeat of last year’s success looking unlikely. There was a crash for Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Tech 3) at Turn 9 - rider OK.
