"2020 starts now" for Marquez as he eyes Honda Triple Crown

The newly-crowned eight-time World Champion has his eye on securing both the Constructors and Team titles to truly mark a perfect 2019

Repsol Honda Team’s Marc Marquez has vowed that he will do anything but relax in the final four races of the 2019 MotoGP™ season, despite just securing an eighth World title. The Spaniard sunk the eight ball in Buriram, but he says that now all attention will switch to securing a Honda Triple Crown.

The Constructors Championship looks very likely to again go Honda’s way, with the Japanese factory 77 points clear of Ducati. However, in the chase for the Team title, Repsol Honda Team currently sit second, 19 points adrift of Andrea Dovizioso, Danilo Petrucci and the Ducati Team.

On top of that, Marquez has also said that his preparations for the 2020 season will begin at the Motul Grand Prix of Japan ahead of him challenging for a fifth consecutive MotoGP™ crown next season. Especially though, because the number 93 is more than aware of the increasing threat posed by Petronas Yamaha SRT’s Fabio Quartararo.

The Frenchman has pushed Marquez to the limit in two final lap duels so far this season, causing the World Champion to label the 20-year-old as “one of the main contenders” for the 2020 title in the aftermath of their Buriram brawl.

“The target now is to win the Triple Crown. The Constructors Championship is there but the Team Championship will be difficult, but we’ll never give up. 2020 starts in Motegi.

“It is a special feeling to bring the World Championship home to Honda. In previous years I have been able to win the title there, but now I will be able to visit all of the people in Honda and HRC who helped make 2019 possible behind the scenes.

“Now it is the time to push for the other titles, there is still the Constructor and Team titles to help Honda win. I am looking forward to racing in Motegi because it is Honda’s home race and the Japanese fans are very special.”
