Manzi was setting the pace from the off as the MV Agusta man hit the ground running in Valencia, but it was a closely contented session throughout. Sam Lowes (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) took his turn at the summit before Manzi then stuck his MV back on top by a couple of tenths. Binder then went quicker in the latter stages but missed out on beating Manzi just 0.046, with an MV Agusta chassis topping a session for the first time this season. Behind third-best Lüthi was Lowes and Fabio Di Giannantonio (MB Conveyors Speed Up).
Enea Bastianini (Italtrans Racing Team) stopped seconds into the session, with Augusto Fernandez (FlexBox HP 40) also encountering issues during FP1. Xavi Vierge (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) crashed in the latter stages - rider ok. The Moto2™ field will be back on track for FP2 at 15:10 local time (GMT+1).
