Acosta quickest in wet weather Warm Up

The Championship leader was four-tenths clear of the field as the lightweight class were afforded one last chance to find some race pace

Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo) topped a wet Moto3™ Warm Up session at the Michelin® Grand Prix of Styria, with the miserable conditions giving riders a glimpse of what to expect come race time. The Championship leader’s time of 1:45.457 saw him have more than four-tenths to spare over Romano Fenati (Sterligarda Max Racing Team) with Darryn Binder (Petronas Sprinta Racing) rounding out the top three.

Adrian Fernandez (Sterligarda Max Racing Team) suffered the ignominy of falling after taking the chequered flag, but he did enough prior to that to sit P4 on the timesheets, with Jaume Masia (Red Bull KTM Ajo) also in the top five.

There was disappointment for Niccolo Antonelli (Avintia VR46) who was ruled out of the day’s action as he fractured his wrist and was declared unfit. Xavi Artigas (Leopard Racing) also missed the Warm Up session due to an inconclusive Covid-19 test, and he will keep his fingers crossed that he can make the starting grid for the lightweight class race, which gets underway at 11am (CET).
