Guevara dominates Friday's action to warn Moto3™ rivals

The Mallorcan’s FP1 lap saw him stay top of the combined standings despite topping FP2 as well

Valresa GASGAS Aspar Team’s Izan Guevara put down a real marker in Moto3™ on the opening day of the Monster Energy Catalan Grand Prix by topping both FP1 and FP2. The Mallorcan’s 1:48.675 from Friday morning was enough to take top spot but he was the only man to dip beneath the 1:49 barrier in FP2 to sit atop of the timesheets.

Rookie sensation Dani Holgado closes out the opening day second in the combined timesheets thanks to his FP1 lap, just under two tenths adrift of Guevara. Leopard Racing’s Dennis Foggia was three tenths shy of Guevara in third spot on the combined timesheets but the Italian was under a tenth behind the Aspar man in FP2.

Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Jaume Masia was also unable to improve on his time from Friday morning meaning the top four are unchanged in the lightweight class. The first of the improvers were the Japanese duo of Tatsuki Suzuki (Leopard Racing) in fifth and Ryusei Yamanaka (MT Helmets – MSI) in sixth.

Andrea Migno was the last of the top ten who failed to improve on his FP1 time, dropping him from sixth to seventh overall. Kaito Toba (CIP Green Power) found an extra two tenths in FP2 to elevate himself up to eighth spot. Completing the top ten in Barcelona was Sergio Garcia (Valresa GASGAS Aspar Team) and Deniz Öncü (Red Bull KTM Tech3).

Moto3™ FP3 will be well worth watching as the lightweight class try and make the most of the cooler conditions to secure a place inside the top 14 and a guaranteed passage to Q2.
