Wednesday ahead of the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya proved to be a day of adventure for Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) as he searched far and wide for his YZR-M1. His search eventually led him to one of the most iconic places in Barcelona, the Tibidabo mountaintop. At over 500 meters it is the tallest of all the mounts in the Serra de Collserola and provides an incredible view of Barcelona city.
Atop the mountain is the Sagrat Cor Church and the quirky Tibidabo Amusement Park, both looming over Barcelona city and visible from almost anywhere. The amusement park itself is one of the oldest in the world, originally built in 1899 and perhaps best known for its ‘Red Aeroplane’ ride, giving visitors the sensation of flying above the city. Unfortunately for Lorenzo, he didn’t have time for any of these rides as he hunted for his beloved Yamaha.
Luckily he didn’t have to search for too long as he found his bike soon after in the carousel. In typical style you always find what you’re looking for in the most unlikely places. Lorenzo managed to just squeeze in a quick ride on the carousel, a fair bit slower than he’s used to going on his Yamaha. It was a good thing he managed to find it quickly as the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya is just around the corner. The fun is only just beginning, as it looks set to be a thrilling weekend in Montmelo.
“Our home GP is an important race as always. All the Spanish Grands Prix are very important for Spanish riders and we try to achieve the best result possible to keep this run of good results we have until now,” said Lorenzo upon finding his bike. The Catalan GP might be just around the corner but he’s still beaming from the race in Mugello: “I watched Mugello complete race back once, but I watched the last laps a few times! It was one of the more amazing fights that I have had in my MotoGP career. I will remember forever this amazing battle, won in the end by just little centimetres and it was very important for the points of the championship.”
