Round nine of the MotoGP™ World Championship will take place at the Sachsenring, the German track now a cornerstone of the championship calendar. At under 3.7km in length it is the shortest track of the year and has a somewhat unusual layout, only three right hand corners against ten lefts. This layout has never been overly kind to Ducati riders, their only victory coming back in 2008 with Casey Stoner on board. A podium at the German GP would be Ducati’s 100th premier class podium; Andrea Iannone (Ducati Team) is certainly going to give it his best to take this honour. In his two previous visits to the Sachsenring in the premier class he has scored fifth, taking top Ducati honours on both occasions.
Aside from relaxing with his friends, Iannone used the two-week break between races as a chance to visit Ducati fans in Misano for World Ducati Week. As ever it was an impressive event with bountiful burnouts and even a jet fly over. It’s time for ‘The Maniac’ to attack and get back on the podium for the third time in 2016. He’s had some tough races in the last few rounds, but you can’t keep ‘The Maniac’ down.
Andrea Iannone: “The Sachsenring circuit hasn’t been particularly kind to us over the last few years, but hopefully we will improve this year because the bike is much better. In the past we also had a bit of difficulty on the Assen track, but this year we were competitive all through the weekend, so I’m sure we can do a good race in Germany.”
