Lorenzo: “It was clear that we wouldn‘t be able to fight”

As in Assen, Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) made a decent start to the wet race in Germany and moved inside the top ten. He held his position for a handful of laps before beginning to slide down the order, unable to find any confidence in the cold and wet conditions. His problems were made worse as the track dried, Lorenzo swallowed up by even more riders. Lorenzo was promoted to seventh as riders ahead went into the pits to change tyres, the Mallorcan quickly losing the positions as the slicks and intermediates came into their own. It's clear he has some way to go to learn the Michelin wet tyres.

Six laps from the end Lorenzo joined the rest of the riders in pitting for new tyres, re-joining in 13th place. The disastrous weekend continued as he fought to get heat into his tyres, conceding two more positions and crossing the line in 15th place, over a minute behind Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team). 15th is Lorenzo’s worst ever MotoGP™ finish and sees him leave Germany 48-points behind Marquez. It’s time to regroup and focus during the summer break.

Jorge Lorenzo: “After the warm up it was clear that we wouldn‘t be able to fight with the top guys in this race but at least I was better and faster than during the warm up. When the track started to dry I was losing positions because I didn‘t feel safe or had confidence in the front tyre, neither on braking or in the corners, and then I changed bikes when the team wrote on the pit board to come in. Maybe it was a bit too late this time for the best strategy to finish a bit more at the front in the classification.”
