Zarco quickest in FP1

Championship leader heads Folger at the Red Bull Ring

Reigning Moto2™ champion Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) headed the Moto2™ pack in FP1 in Austria, as first practice got underway with cold air and track temperatures at the new layout of the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg. Dynavolt Intact GP rider Jonas Folger was second quickest, ahead of Swiss Garage Plus Interwetten rider Tom Luthi.

Miguel Oliveira (Leopard Racing) showed fantastic rookie pace to end the session P4, with Marcel Schrotter completing the top 5. Championship contenders Alex Rins (Paginas Amarillas HP40) and Sam Lowes (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) had a more difficult first session at the new Austrian venue than points leader Zarco, with Rins ending FP1 in P10 and Lowes just behind his rival in P11 after suffering a lowside and low consequence crash at Turn 3.
