Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS rider Franco Morbidelli was quickest in the first session for the intermediate class on Sunday at Phillip Island, as the sun finally came back and conditions improved. Sam Lowes (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) was second quickest, before a crash into Turn 1, ahead of Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP).
Championship contender Alex Rins (Paginas Amarillas HP40) was fourth quickest, with Idemitsu Honda Team Asia’s Takaaki Nakagami in fifth as he got back on track after a big crash on Friday. Cortese’s teammate Folger was P6, ahead of Lorenzo Baldassarri (Forward Racing Team), Danny Kent (Leopard Racing), Axel Pons (AGR Team) and Xavier Simeon (QMMF Team).
Reigning World Champion and points leader Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) was P12, with polesitter Tom Luthi (Garage Plus Interwetten) in P17.
