Zarco six thousandths clear for a final Moto2™ pole

Season finale set up as a stunner with a front row split by less than a tenth

2016 Moto2™ World Champion Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) starts his final intermediate class appearance from pole position in Valencia, beating Garage Plus Interwetten rider Tom Luthi by only 0.006 seconds – with Franco Morbidelli (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) only another 0.048s back to complete the front row for the final showdown. Luthi, who is currently P2 in the standings heading into the final race of the year, is facing down Morbidelli for that honour in Valencia - as well as Alex Rins (Paginas Amarillas HP40) - with times incredibly close in Moto2™ once again.

Mattia Pasini (Italtrans Racing Team) impressed to head the second row despite a crash during Friday's track action, with key contender for P2 in the title, Alex Rins, taking P5 in his final home race in Moto2™. Compatriot Julian Simon (QMMF Racing Team) continued his impressive form in Valencia to complete row two.

Sam Lowes (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) headed a British invasion on row three, with Danny Kent (Leopard Racing) just behind in P8. Assen winner Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) was ninth quickest, with another home hero – Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS rider Alex Marquez – completing the top ten at home as he returns to the scene of his 2014 Moto3™ World Championship win.
