Marquez hails “promising setup”

Reigning Champion second on Friday despite a crash

Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) ended Friday action at the Gran Premio Motul de la Republica in second on the combined timesheets, closest challenger to Maverick Viñales (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) – despite a crash. The reigning Champion took a tumble in FP1 but got to his feet quickly, and was soon back on track to take the fight back to the top.

One of only a handful of riders to set a 1:39 on Day 1, Marquez is also in a good position to head through to Q2 if FP3 gets rained off – with the weather forecast looking uncertain for Saturday.

Marc Marquez, P2: “I’m quite happy with today because although we still have some issues to sort out, we’re not far from the top. As always happens here in Argentina, today the track was quite slippery in the beginning, and I crashed this morning because I was pushing a little too hard and went a bit off line. Anyway, after that we worked really hard and found a promising setup. We’re still missing something, and tomorrow we’ll try to improve in the second sector, especially the acceleration at turns 3 and 4.”
