Go #BIG6 and go home: Marquez celebrates in Cervera!

The party of the year lights up the newly-crowned Champion’s hometown

After taking his sixth world title at the Valencia GP, Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) had a homecoming fit for a record-breaker as the now-customary party for the MotoGP™ World Champion lit up his hometown of Cervera. Beginning with a Press Conference in the University building in the middle of the town where Marquez fielded questions on his title and the 2017 season, the number 93 and his team then took to the streets in a parade around the picturesque town center.

“To celebrate your sixth world title where you were born, where you’ve lived – it’s something incredible,” grinned Marquez, just about to set off on a magical but not-so mysterious tour of the town. “Of course I’ll try to enjoy this special day because every year it’s different - and every year there’s more people!”

The rider from Cervera said one of his six stand out points of the season – alongside his team, Honda, hard work, consistency and personality - was having learned to never underestimate anyone, explaining that early in the year he hadn’t been focused on Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) before the Italian became his biggest rival for the crown. He also revealed that Dovizioso is the rival he has most enjoyed racing against thus far – “maximum respect off track and always within the limits on track.”

Then introducing each member of his family and each saying a few words – and brother and 2014 Moto3™ World Champion Alex Marquez a few more – two lucky fans were brought up on stage to talk to the reigning Champion and get a 2017 World Champion shirt, and a video from his Fan Club played across the square. Then it was time to bring out the team.

Calling out each team member to come to the front of the stage and talk to the crowd, MC Marquez took over the show after a video showing the emotional rollercoaster that the team go through at the track, in the garage and parc ferme – with most having been with the newly-crowned Champion even before his graduation to MotoGP™ and first premier class title in 2013.

After the final fireworks, the party continued off-stage – and as a message of thanks to his fans for their support throughout the season, the 2017 MotoGP™ World Champion kept it short and sweet:

“To all my fans who support me and who follow MotoGP, I hope you’ve enjoyed the show! We did amazing races together with my mates in MotoGP this season, thanks for everything!”
