Mir quickest as he fires Warm Up warning in Sepang

The rookie got the better of the dominant Yamahas on Sunday morning

Team Suzuki Ecstar’s Joan Mir started his Shell Malaysian Grand Prix Sunday in the best possible manner by topping MotoGP™ Warm Up and putting an end to Petronas Yamaha SRT’s Sepang dominance as neither Fabio Quartararo nor Franco Morbidelli ended up fastest for the first time this weekend.

In fact, the top two didn’t feature a Petronas Yamaha SRT machine as Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP’s Maverick Viñales managed to get closest to the Spanish rookie, eventually ending up a quarter of a second adrift of Mir. Franco Morbidelli (Petronas Yamaha SRT) finished third on the timesheets ahead of a resurgent Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team), with the World Champion motivated to bounce back from Saturday’s disappointment.

The final top five spot went the way of Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team), who was only 0.003 of a second clear of today’s polesitter Fabio Quartararo (Petronas Yamaha SRT). The top six all went beneath the two-minute barrier and were separated by exactly four-tenths of a second.

Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP’s Valentino Rossi was seventh having touched the grass as he entered the back straight in the closing stages. Jack. Miller (Pramac Racing) was eighth, before Pol Espagraro (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and Cal Crutchlow (LCR Castrol Honda) completed the top ten.

After one of the most dramatic qualifying sessions in recent memory on Saturday afternoon, today’s Shell Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix looks set to be an absolute barnstormer. You do not want to miss it at 15:00 local time (GMT+8).
