Granado sends warning shot with dominant Friday display

The Brazilian came out on top of both Free Practice sessions ahead of Saturday’s E-Pole and Race 1

Eric Granado goes into FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup E-Pole top of the timesheets following a dominant performance in both Free Practice sessions on Friday at the Gran Premio TISSOT dell'Emilia Romagna e della Riviera di Rimini. The Avintia Esponsorama Racing man recorded a 1:42.910 on his final lap in FP2 to knock Alex de Angelis (OCTO Pramac MotoE) into second overall, and despite crashing late into the session, the latter will be ok to take part in the rest of the weekend’s action. San Marino GP race winner Matteo Ferrari (Trentino Gresini MotoE) completed the top three.

Sammarinese rider de Angelis lead the standings for the majority of FP2 and will be satisfied with his run out on Friday, and he’ll be hoping for better luck in E-Pole on Saturday after qualifying 15th for his home Grand Prix last weekend.

Ferrari will be looking to repeat his Sunday heroics once more and he looked in good form ahead of the weekend’s action, finishing the day two tenths off the lead in FP2. The Italian currently sits 12 points off the lead of the Cup standings, and will fancy his chances of closing the gap to leader Dominique Aegerter (Dynavolt Intact GP).

Jordi Torres (Pons Racing 40) is also seeking to continue his assault on the summit of the standings and his 1:43.319 will give him the – potential – advantage of knowing what lap time Aegerter will have set in E-Pole, with the Swiss rider slipping from P3 to P7 in the afternoon to finish P7 on the combined times – his best time came in FP1.

Xavier Simeon (LCR E-Team) claimed his first MotoE™ podium finish of 2020 in the San Marino GP, but the Belgian rider will have to find improvements to repeat the feat after he failed to better his FP1 time in the afternoon, suffering a crash in the afternoon which means he had to settle for fifth overall after a promising morning session.

Rookie Tommasso Marcon (Tech3 E-Racing) recorded the sixth quickest time of the day in FP2, and will be satisfied with the results of the changes his team made to his bike’s battery.

Having this week said that he has finally found a riding style which suits him, Mike Di Meglio (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) put in a confident performance to record the eighth best time of the day, while Lukas Tulovic (Tech3 E-Racing) and Alessandro Zaccone (Trentino Gresini MotoE) were only separated by four-thousandths of a second in P9 and P10 respectively.

With the MotoE™ World Cup still firmly in the balance and two races taking place this weekend, there will be plenty of shake-ups on the overall standings by the time the weekend is out. Watch E-Pole at 11:45 (GMT+2) on Saturday before Race 1 gets underway at 16:20, the results of the race will set the grid for Race 2 on Sunday morning at 10:05.
