Tommaso Marcon joins MV Agusta Forward Racing

The young Italian will take part in some European races in the 2021 Moto2™ World Championship alongside Simone Corsi and Lorenzo Baldassarri

MV Agusta Forward Racing has announced the signing of Tommaso Marcon as their third rider ahead of the 2021 Moto2™ World Championship. The young Italian will take part in some European rounds this year, if wildcards are permitted, before then making the jump to full-time rider in the intermediate class for the 2022 season.

After starting his career in the Italian Moto3™ Championship with the junior teams of Gresini and of SIC58, Marcon then switched to the European Moto2™ Championship in FIM CEV Repsol at the start of 2018. He would go on to win the Rookie of the Year crown that year, finishing in sixth place in the overall standings thanks to a debut podium at the Circuito de Jerez - Angel Nieto.

In 2019, he finished the season in fourth place after taking three podiums during the year. 2019 was also the year in which Marcon made his first appearance on the World Championship stage with a debut ride in Valencia. In 2020, the 21-year-old made his debut in the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup.

For the 2021 season, the MV Agusta Forward Racing squad will try its best to grow the rider into an effective and integral part of the team. Marcon will work alongside full-time riders Simone Corsi and Lorenzo Baldassarri during the whole season to get familiar with the box environment and the atmosphere in and around the paddock.

Giovanni Cuzari, MV Agusta Forward Racing Team Principal: "I am very happy to have the Tommaso in the family and I am sure that the MV Agusta Forward Racing Team will be the right environment for him. Tommaso comes from a team that I respect a lot (Tech3) and I am sure we will do a great job together. Our intention is to prepare the young rider for next season as an official rider for the World Championship in 2022. Welcome Tommy!"

Tommaso Marcon: "I'm very happy to join the MV Agusta Forward Racing family. This year I'll have the opportunity to compete with the best in the world, even if only for a few races, and it's an incredible opportunity for me to do even more and better. I have always dreamed of being a rider and I want this challenge to be the start of a great adventure. I can't wait to test the bike on track after this long winter. Talking to the guys in the team, I know they will do their best to put me in the best possible condition. I know I will have a lot to learn and I feel ready both physically and mentally to train, improve and to be fast. Thanks for the opportunity to all the guys and to Giovanni."
