Under the heat of the Qatar sun, Marco Bezzecchi (SKY Racing Team VR46) came out on top of FP1 thanks to a 2:00.305 as the Moto2™ class took to the track for a Grand Prix for the first time this season. The Italian edged out Sam Lowes (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) by just under two hundredths, with Fabio DiGiannantonio (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) taking P3.

Bo Bendsnyder (Pertamina Mandalika SAG Team), Remy Gardner (Red Bull KTM Ajo) and Jake Dixon (Petronas Sprinta Racing) completed the Top 6 in the soaring heat, with less than four-tenths separating the six fastest riders.
Three rookies make it into the Top 10 with Albert Arenas (Inde Apsar Team) and Raul Fernandez (Red Bull KTM Ajo) looking more than comfortable for P7 and P8 respectively, just ahead of Augusto Fernandez (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team). Ai Ogura (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) is the third debutant to make it inside the 10 quickest times of FP1, but he hit the asphalt late in the session for the first Grand Prix crash of the year in the intermediate class.
