Zarco sets lap record to stun on Friday morning

The Frenchman was nearly eight tenths clear of second fastest Mir in MotoGP™ FP1

It’s safe to say Johann Zarco (Pramac Racing) has come out the blocks firing at the Bitci Motorrad Grand Prix von Österreich as the Frenchman set a new Red Bull Ring lap record in MotoGP™ FP1. His 1:22.827 was 0.798s faster than second place Joan Mir (Team Suzuki Ecstar) as Alex Rins makes it two Team Suzuki Ecstar’s in the top three.

Fourth fastest Takaaki Nakagami (LCR Honda Idemitsu) was the only other rider to get within a second of Zarco’s blistering time on Friday morning, as Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing Team Gresini) completed the top five despite encountering a small issue with his RS-GP in FP1. World Championship leader Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) also suffered an issue at the end of the session, the Frenchman was P6.
