The Spaniard is 0.131s clear of second place Augusto Fernandez (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) after the opening stint, World Championship leader Remy Gardner (Red Bull KTM Ajo) claimed P3.

Second on the Championship Raul Fernandez (Red Bull KTM Ajo) is fourth, just over a tenth behind teammate Gardner, with Joe Roberts (Italtrans Racing Team) closing out the fastest five in FP1. Home hero Sam Lowes (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) crashed unhurt at Turn 16 on Friday morning, the British rider was sixth fastest despite the front end off.
