Lowes: “Leading again is giving me a lot of motivation”

It’s off to Barcelona for round seven of the Moto2™ World Championship for Sam Lowes with sights set on the podium.

Mugello produced a strange Moto2™ World Championship race, a red flag reducing it to just ten laps. Having led and looked comfortable before the red flag, Sam Lowes finished third after the restart. While he was hoping for a win, third helped his championship ambitions significantly and allowed him to move back to the top of the standings. The intermediate class championship remains the tightest of all three classes, the top four split by 17 points.

The Brit is out to keep his momentum going and hopefully return to the top step of the podium. In 2015 Lowes achieved fourth place at the race, improving on his DNF from the year before. Alex Rins (Paginas Amarillas HP 40) is Lowes’ closest title rival and the Catalan is his home GP, no doubt he’ll be a tough opponent to overcome during the weekend. His goal for victory will be aided by the fact he has already tested at the Barcelona track, back in late April. Lowes had stayed in Mugello for an extra day on Monday with the hopes of testing, but weather saw the day ruined.

Sam Lowes: “After the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez we made a really positive test at the Montmelò circuit: we have been very fast, with lower lap times compared to last year’s race, and we also found a good set-up, so I’m looking forward to start the race weekend. So far we have been fast and competitive on all circuits, so hopefully we can start well from the first practice. I feel very good and am very comfortable with the bike and with the team, and also the third place collected at Mugello and the fact to be leading again is giving me a lot of motivation ahead of this race”
