Navarro: “This win feels glorious”

An incredible first win for Jorge Navarro in front of his home fans after a hard race in Barcelona.

Eight riders in the Moto3™ World Championship race at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya battled for victory. Jorge Navarro (Estrella Galicia 0,0) was able to open up a small advantage several times during the race but a number of mistakes dropped him back into the clutches of the chasing pack. He made one last attempt to break away in the closing laps, this final attempt working and allowing Navarro to open up a small gap. The advantage would be enough to break the slipstream of his pursuers, crossing the line 0.564s ahead of chief title rival Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Ajo).

This is Navarro’s 36th Grand Prix start, the Spaniard finally able to deliver on his potential and take victory. A first win can often ignite a fire within lightweight class riders, opening the floodgates to many more wins. Navarro remains second in the championship standings but does gain five points back on Binder, now 44 behind as they prepare for the Motul TT Assen.

"I wanted the win for me, for my team and to dedicate the victory to Luis Salom"

Jorge Navarro: “This win feels glorious -and even more so with the way we earned it. In sporting terms it has been a very good weekend for us, because I had a race like this in mind since Friday, with the idea being to start well and push hard. The improvements brought here by Honda have helped me a lot too. Today I started the race thinking only that I had to win, that today was the day; I wanted the win for me, for my team and to dedicate the victory to Luis Salom.”
