Marquez: "We got the tyre choice wrong"

Points leader forced back to his dueling best after a defensive mid-season stint

Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) leaves the Octo British Grand Prix with a 50 point advantage over key championship contender Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP), after the Spaniard got stuck into the battle for the podium. After several races managing the gap and taking the points when it counted, the aggressive and spectacular side of the 2013 and 2014 world champion was back with a vengeance at Silverstone after making the wrong choice on tyre, and he took on Rossi as the two staged an incredible battle. Gapping the Italian and setting off after LCR Honda's home hero Cal Crutchlow, Marquez then ran too deep in his battle with the Brit and dropped back to just behind his teammate Dani Pedrosa - just pipping Pedrosa to P4 at the flag.

Marc Marquez (P4): "Today I had to take a lot of risks because we got the tyre choice wrong and I immediately realised we'd made a mistake. We chose the soft front tyre because that's what we thought was the best before the race. I tried to follow Valentino, who was my main concern in the championship, and then tried to attack him at the end because I'd looked after my tyres really well. It was a shame to make the mistake I did with two laps to go but in the end I only lost 3 points in the standings and that's pretty satisfying."
