Marquez: "We’ve suffered less than we initially expected"

Points leader P5 on Day 1 and concentrating on tyres

Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) didn't get off to the best start in the Gran Premio TIM di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini, but a lowside crash in FP1 proved free of consequences for the championship leader. The 2013 and 2014 MotoGP™ world champion was fourth fastest in that session, ahead of Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP), before a role-reversal saw the two rivals switch positions by the end of play on Friday, with Marquez P5 and Lorenzo moving up a place. Marquez, who is 50 points clear at the top of the championship, focused on the tyres on Friday in Misano, with Michelin having brought new options to the race. Marquez felt he had made a mistake with the choice he made in the British GP and was eager to avoid a repeat.

Marc Marquez (P5): "I’m happy with how the day went overall. I think we worked pretty well and we’ve tried out almost every tyre as we didn’t want to make the same mistake we made in Silverstone. In the morning I had a strange feeling with some different front tyres; I pushed the front in a slow corner and lost it, although I was already looking for the limit at that point. Honestly we’ve suffered less than we had initially expected; in fact, I was able to be among the fastest riders and I think that if we continue to work well we can have a good weekend”.
