Navarro: "I said to myself 'this has to be our race'"

Aragon race winner talks through his impressive second win - and the tactics behind it

Jorge Navarro (Estrella Galicia 0,0) has had a tough mid-season stint, but the Spaniard bounced back in spectacular style at his home GP at MotorLand Aragon, perfectly judging the race and taking his second career victory. Although losing the title to Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Ajo), both Navarro and Enea Bastianini (Gresini Racing Moto3) were in the battle to the end - with the race and the championship coming down to the final corner. Navarro, who had to win the race to keep his title hopes alive, did all he could - but South African Binder took enough points with his P2 finish to earn the crown.

After a test day at MotorLand, now Navarro and Bastianini face down four rounds and the chance to be runner up - sure to be another great battle as the season finale appears on the horizon.

Jorge Navarro (P1): "It was a typical Moto3™ race in MotorLand, where slipstreaming was important and the front group was very big at the start. In the first few laps, I tried to push and I got a small gap, but I saw it wasn't enough and I decided to slow down my rhythm and wait for them so I didn't tire myself or the tyres. Near the end with five laps to go I decided it was time to attack because the group was getting bigger and Binder started to push. I stayed in the group and went with them, following my strategy I'd decided on - to be second on the back straight. Binder surprised me then overtaking me and Bastianini, but in the last corner I said to myself "this has to be our race" and we did it. It's definitely something amazing to win at home. It was a fun race and I congratulate Brad Binder for the title. He's worked really hard and he's having an incredible season."
