Franco Morbidelli (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) has taken seven podiums out of ten races since the Dutch TT, and is now in a position to challenge Alex Rins (Paginas Amarillas HP40) for third in the Moto2™ Championship as the final race of the season in Valencia approaches.
Leading the way in the Malaysian GP for 13 laps, Morbidelli was then passed by eventual winner and Champion Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) as the track began to dry – but held off Jonas Folger (Dynavolt Intact GP) to take second once again after narrowly missing the win in a photo finish at Phillip Island last time out; adding another podium to a fantastic record in 2016.
Franco Morbidelli (P2): "I struggled a little to understand that with the championship already done why Johann kept pushing in second place but it was a nice race and congratulations to him for winning the championship. I was very fast in the wet conditions but when the track started to dry out I could not keep the same pace with Johann but I was able to hold second with is great for me and the team. I go to Valencia with a good feeling for the final race and to aim for third position in the championship.”
