MotoGP™ announces European TV deals in 2017

Broadcasters in Scandinavia, the Baltics and Romania confirmed for next season - at least

As the 2016 season comes to an end, Dorna Sports is delighted to announce a series of television agreements for the 2017 MotoGP™ season – in Scandinavia, the Baltics and Romania.

Dorna Sports announces renewals in Scandinavia (Sweden, Denmark and Norway) and the Baltic States (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) with Viasat, the pay-television operator owned by the Modern Times Group. MotoGP™ will continue to be shown on Viasat Motor Channel and video streaming service Viaplay until the end of 2019. In more exciting news for viewers in the aforementioned countries, Viasat is also adding to its motorsport portfolio the Red Bull Rookies Cup and the Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup – two further Championships of which Dorna is the organiser and rights holder.

In Romania, a new and exclusive three-year agreement with Eurosport will see all races broadcast on the Eurosport 1 channel in the country.  Qualifying and practice sessions will also be live or delayed on Eurosport 1 - with all sessions also available via Eurosport player.

Victoria Davies, VP, Country Manager Central and Eastern Europe, Eurosport: “This new agreement is part of our long term commitment to the Romanian market aimed at offering relevant, premium content to all our Eurosport fans. We are delighted to consolidate our local offer with MotoGP™ for the coming three years. This is a great example of how Eurosport is able to bring fans a complete live viewing experience when it comes to the greatest sporting events. Our coverage is extensive, with the live broadcast of all races each season, as well as an immersive and entertaining experience with our multi-feed service. It’s what fans expect today and exactly what Eurosport is capable of delivering.”

Peter Nørrelund, MTG EVP & CEO of MTG Sport: “Nothing engages audiences more than live sport – and MotoGP™ is one of the world’s most exciting motorsport competitions. These rights are the perfect complement to our Formula 1 coverage, and means that MTG will continue to offer viewers the very best of motorsport on both two and four wheels.”

Manel Arroyo, Managing Director - Media Area, Dorna Sports: “We are thrilled to be able to announce two significant agreements for next season. We are excited to embark on a new relationship with Eurosport in Romania, as interest for MotoGP™ continues to grow.  Romanian MotoGP™ fans can look forward to better coverage than ever before, with more content specifically tailored for the local audience. As for our agreement with Viasat, we are pleased to extend our partnership so that fans in Scandinavia and the Baltics can continue to follow all the action from the upcoming seasons of MotoGP."
