McPhee flies on Day 1 in Jerez

Third for the BTT as the curtain comes up on the #SpanishGP

British Talent Team rider John McPhee opened the first day of action at the Spanish GP in an impressive third position, once again a key presence in the top echelons of the timesheets and keeping his momentum from the first three races rolling. The Scotsman put in a best of 1:50.398 on Friday in Jerez for P3 on combined times, despite also suffering a lowside crash in FP2.

The first session on Friday was a short one for the Brit and many on the grid, as the weather dawned grey on Day 1 before it then rained. McPhee did five laps to take P6 amongst those who went out, content to wait for a drier FP2 to get back down to work.

Track conditions were much improved in the afternoon and McPhee shot up the timesheets to P1 for some time before ending the day’s action in third. A damp patch of track did catch the Scotsman out late in FP2, but a trip to the Medical Center gave McPhee the all-ok.

FP3 sees Moto3™ back on track at 9:00 (GMT +2) on Saturday, before qualifying at 12:35.

John McPhee, P3: “Strange weather limited track time in both our sessions today but for what little laps I did, I felt comfortable and happy on track. I was fast in both wet and mixed conditions. I had a small crash at the end of FP2 and damaged my little finger on my left hand, but it all looks good for tomorrow and I'm excited to get out on track again.”
